			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Call for Submissions &#8211; ARLIS/ON Travel Award 2012</strong></p>
<p><strong>Two Travel Awards</strong> of <strong>$300</strong> each will be  offered this year by the Ontario Chapter of the Art Libraries Society  of North America (ARLIS/NA). The award is intended to promote  professional development and encourage involvement among chapter members  in ARLIS/NA, by helping to defray the expense of attending ARLIS/NA&#8217;s  annual conference. Hosted in Toronto, Ontario, from March 29-April 2,  2012,<strong><em> Colouring Outside the Lines</em></strong> will be ARLIS/NA’s 40th Annual Conference. <p> To apply for an award, please submit:</p>
<ul>
<li> A letter of application indicating the conference for which you seek  funding and addressing relevant eligibility and award criteria. The  application should include brief descriptions of your professional  interests, your expectations of the conference, and its relevance to  your professional development.</li>
<li> An estimate of your conference expenses and amount of any institutional funding.</li>
<li> A one-page résumé listing your employment history, educational  background, and professional activities. Include your preferred mailing  address, telephone number, and e-mail address.</li>
</ul>

<p>Jackman Hall, AGO Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario</p>
<p>To access to Jackman Hall, please enter the AGO at the McCaul Street entrance,  located south of the Henry Moore and adjacent to the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU).</p>
<p>Admission $8 at the door</p>
<p>A panel discussion exploring the different approaches of research and information gathering by artists during the process of art production. Artists, librarians and archivists come together for a discussion of current directions in studio pedagogy and practice and the role that art information professionals can play as facilitators of the creative process. The chosen panel will present perspectives from different artistic practices, experience levels and from a variety of public, university and college, and museum institutions to explore all facets of how research is incorporated into contemporary artistic production.</p>
<p><strong>Panelists:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ian Carr-Harris</strong> is an artist whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 1971, including the Venice Biennale. In 2007 he was named a recipient of the Governor-General&#8217;s Awards in the Visual and Media Arts. He also has Bachelor of Library Science from University of Toronto and worked as a librarian at OCADU’s Dorothy H. Hoover Library. Ian currently teaches within the Sculpture/Installation, and Criticism and Curatorial Practice streams at OCAD University.</p>
<p><strong>Lisa Steele</strong> produces videotapes, performances and photo/text works that have been exhibited in festivals, museums and galleries around the world. Lisa with her partner, Kim Tomczak, received the Governor General’s Award for lifetime achievement in Visual and Media Arts in 2005.  She is a co-founder of Vtape and teaches at the University of Toronto in the Department of Art where she is the Graduate Program Director of the Visual Studies programme.</p>
<p><strong>David Poolman</strong> works in a variety of mediums including drawing, video, print media, and installation, and has exhibited in art galleries and screened in festivals both in Canada and internationally. He is currently is a professor of Drawing at Sheridan Institute.</p>
<p><strong>Adam Lauder</strong> is a librarian and the W.P. Scott Chair for Research in E-Librarianship at York University’s Scott Library.</p>
<p><strong>Eric Schwab</strong> is the manager of digitization and preservation at the Toronto Public Library.</p>
<p><strong>Amy Marshall Furness</strong> is the Special Collections Archivist at the E.P.  Taylor Research Library and Archives, Art Gallery of Ontario.</p>

<p>We are looking for members of ARLIS Ontario who would like to serve on the<br />
 2011 executive. We have openings for a membership coordinator, treasurer and<br />
 vice-chair. Please send an email indicating your interest in any of these<br />
 positions to Tammy Moorse (tmoorse AT gmail dot com) by November 11, 2010.</p>
<p>PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to be at the Fall meeting in Ottawa to be elected for these positions.</p>
<p>Please note: the vice-chair position is a three year commitment. In 2011, the position is vice-chair. In 2012, the position moves to chair of the executive and in 2013 the position becomes ex-officio.</p>

<p>In late February ARLIS Ontario will be hosting a panel discussion between professional artists and art librarians. We are looking for a couple of interested people who would like to help coordinate this event. Please contact Tammy Moorse, if you are interested.</p>
<p>Winter Fundraiser</p>
<p>Please join us December 9th for our winter social and fundraiser. This will be held at U of T. More details to come. We are looking for donations for the silent auction. <p>
The 40th annual ARLIS/NA conference in Toronto will be held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto from Thursday, March 29th to Monday, April 2, 2012. The conference planning team has secured rooms for sessions, workshops and meetings and a convocation and welcome party venue. Immediate next steps are to establish a Conference Theme and begin developing a promo presentation for the Minneapolis conference (March 24-28, 2011).</p>
<p>Thematic ideas were discussed at the first joint conference planning meeting of the Ontario and WNY chapters, held last April in Boston. The Program Co-Chairs would like to obtain the feedback of all Ontario and WNY chapter members on our proposed Conference Theme. The deadline for your response is Sunday, November 7th.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: left">The Fall meeting of ARLIS Ontario will take place in Ottawa on Friday November 12  and Saturday November 13 at <a href="http://www.carleton.ca/">Carleton University</a>.<br />
 This will be a joint meeting of the ARLIS Ontario chapter and the <a href="http://arlismoq.library.concordia.ca/">ARLIS Montreal/Ottawa/Quebec (MOQ) Chapter</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">Meeting cost: $25 to ARLIS Ontario Members, $10 for students.</p>
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Meeting room at Carleton:</strong> MacOdrum Library, Room 102. (Directions: The room is in the basement of the library. If you enter through the front doors walk through the lobby to the double doors and proceed down the stairs. The room is slightly to the right at the bottom of the stairs.)</p>
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Parking at Carleton:</strong> There is not close free parking to campus. The lot that is closest to the library is lot 1 but it has a 4 hour limit and is rather expensive. The far lot is the best rate and no time limit for the day and is P6 (on the campus map) just as you come off Bronson turn right.</p>
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Friday</strong> &#8211; Start Time: 1:30 at Carleton University for ARLIS Ontario</p>

<li>1:30 &#8211; Patti Harper &#8211; Archivist, <a href="http://arc.library.carleton.ca/">Archives and Research Collection, Carelton University</a> &#8211; will give a 40 minute presentation on the archives collection at the Carleton archives. </li>
<li>2:45 &#8211; Dr. Norman Vorano &#8211; Curator of Contemporary Inuit Art, <a href="http://www.civilization.ca/cmc/home/cmc-home">Canadian Museum of Civilization</a> &#8211; will give a presentation on the recent acquisition of Inuit prints by the Museum. </li>
</ul>
